In Canada, typically, a general dental/oral health care is not included in Canada Health Act (CHA). Most Canadians pay either themselves or through insurance for their oral health care services, which are chiefly being provided by privately operated dental clinics. Some dental services are covered through government dental programs, though. Many private Dental Insurance companies offer health coverage and dental coverage for Canadian residents, 18 to 64 years old, and not covered by an employer group plan or those who would like to supplement an existing plan.
Some community dental programs have dental services that are free or less expensive than regular dentists. In most cities in Ontario, the local community or public health department offers some free dental services. However, these services are only available to specific people (such as eligible seni
ors and children) and the clients/patients should contact their local community health department to find out what services are available in their community. For example, Peel Public Health offers basic dental services to low income seniors who qualify, especially, to help seniors who have no dental insurance have no access to any form of dental coverage including government programs such as Ontario Disability Support Program (ODSP), Ontario Works (OW), and Non-Insured Health Benefits.
