Course Objectives:

To understand the technical components of Electrocardiography

To understand application and use of ECG Equipment and supplies in the medical field
-
To have the knowledge and understanding of the roles and responsibilities of the EKG technician and how it relates to patient care.

To demonstrate understanding of normal electrophysiology of the cardiac system
-
To recognize normal waveforms in the electrical conduction of the cardiac system
-
To identify common variations in the electrical conduction of cardiac system
-
To distinguish deadly heart rhythms in the electrical conduction of the cardiac system
-
To demonstrate understanding and differences of 3, 5 and 12 lead cardiac monitoring devices and various electrode attachments
Course Prerequisite:

Nursing or Medical background

Degree or Diploma in a medical discipline OR a minimum of 1 year experience in a medical setting

Student undergoing Diploma program in medical and healthcare

Certificate of EKG /ECG (Basic Program) - Equal to 15-20 hrs

Certificate of EKG /ECG (Advanced Program)- Equal to 40 hrs
